Saw palmetto is a kind of fruit coming from a tree that is very much similar to a palm tree. It has been widely used for several purposes as it is known to be very nutritious. It grows mostly in the Americas.
Most native Americans consider it just like other fruits while some see more value to it. It has also been widely used as a cosmetic aid which works well on the skin and hair. It cures skin conditions like acne and aging skin and makes the hair less brittle and shinier.
Its effect on the digestive system is described to be mild but very good. Thus, it can be taken in as a supplement to one’s diet. It is as nutritious as the other berries, like strawberries, mulberries, blueberries, etc. It boosts one’s appetite, promotes good digestion, and aids in effective assimilation of nutrients. It is also a good expectorant which calms almost all types of coughs. It can even relieve asthma and laryngitis.
On top of all these, saw palmetto has amazed a lot of people with its effect on several reproductive and urinary conditions. In fact, this is what really caused the buzz about it. It has been proven to work well with wasted organs and leads to enlargement of the breast, testicles, and ovaries. On the other hand, it is able to reduce prostatic hypertrophy.
Saw palmetto, since it is a fruit, is overall considered as safe. However, one must still watch his intake as beta-sitosterol is an active ingredient of it, which is chemically very similar to cholesterol.
